Last night we got out Cade's telescope that we gave him for Christmas, turned off the street light in front of our house, and checked out the Lunar Eclipse! We woke up the boys at about 12:30am and let them come out and see it. Michael and I stayed up and watched it until um.... way too late. haha. But it was fascinating how much detail we could see with the telescope, and how the moon looked like a giant marble floating in the air, and how dark and orange it got when it was fully eclipsed in the earth's shadow. Good times. We got to share some of the fun with neighbors who came out about 1am- we invited them to look through the telescope and binoculars. I took a bunch of pictures with our telephoto lens, but they don't do the eclipse justice because the camera picked up so much light still. Anyway, you can appreciate the orangey-red color and the brightness of the stars around the moon. We are going to get another focal lens or two for the telescope for increased magnification of the stars/planets. Fascinating stuff.
Eclipse around 12:30am-- don't mind the blue reflection artifact.
Cade and Brennan-- "I can't believe we're up in the middle of the night!"
Somehow looking up at the moon and stars makes me feel very very very small!

We have the coolest telescope, but unfortunately don't have it put together since moving and we forgot all about the eclipse anyway...Oh well. It was all rainy and cloudy here anyway. Glad you guys had fun and the pictures are great.
